What's So Good About a Aromatherapy Diffuser?

An aromatherapy diffuser is an apparatus used to scatter the scent of different oils and substances into the air; by doing so it allows you to get the benefit of the essential oils simply by breathing in the air.

There are various types of diffusers, from the purse size aromatherapy diffuser to a cigarette-lighter diffuser for your car to a spa diffuser. All of them have one single purpose-to scatter essential oil fragrance into the room, car, spa or any other space desired. The aromatherapy diffuser can be found in specialty stores and sometimes even in department stores.

Do-It-Yourself

There are many ways to make use of what you already have in your house in order to use a homemade diffuser if you are not yet sure you should invest in a commercial model. Here are a few tips:

* A simple way to create a diffuser is to use household items. A deep glass bowl, not larger than your face, can act as a dispenser. Boil some water and fill the bowl half way. Add essential oil to the water; about 10 drops should be enough to fill a room. Place the bowl in the desired room, and the hot water will aid in the evaporation and dispensing of the oil essence throughout the room. Be sure to wash the bowl well after use.

* Candles can be used as a diffuser as well. Take an unscented candle in a jar. Light the candle and let it burn for half hour, or until wax is melted in the jar; add the desired essential oil to the melted wax. The same effect will occur as with the boiling water. The heat will disperse the oil into the air. Remember that essential oil is flammable so you must use it with great caution.

Types of Aromatherapy Diffusers Available

* Lamp Rings - These are terracotta rings that go around a light bulb. The rings have a grooved lip all the way around in which to put the few drops of essential oil. The heat of the bulb, as it also heats up the terracotta ring, will disperse the scent into the air and fill the room. Always add oil to the ring when the ring is cold, and do not place a cold ring on a hot light bulb.

* Fan diffuser - Here the fan is used to disperse the essential oil scent desired into the room. This is achieved by placing a few drops of the oil on to a disposable absorbent pad, place the pad into the unit and then start the fan. Fan diffusers come in a variety of sizes.

* Electric heat diffuser - These diffusers use heat along with a very small fan to gently disperse the essential oil aroma into the space desired. Most are small and can be plugged into a wall outlet.

* Nebulizer - A nebulizer is a great apparatus. It takes the essential oil and breaks it into separate molecules before dispersing them thus making the absorption of the essence quicker and easier. This method is said to have higher therapeutic value.

An aromatherapy diffuser, in any shape, size, or price-range, is a great device to use when trying to de-stress and enjoy your time at home or in the office.
